Louise Bourgeois was born in Paris in 1911. She studied art at various schools there, including the Ecole du Louvre, Académie des Beaux-Arts, Académie Julian, and Atelier Fernand Léger. In 1938, she emigrated to the United States and continued her studies at the Art Students League in New York. Though her beginnings were as an engraver and painter, by the 1940s she had turned her attention to sculptural work, for which she is now recognized as a twentieth-century leader. Greatly influenced by the influx of European Surrealist artists who immigrated to the United States after World War II, Bourgeois’s early sculpture was composed of groupings of abstract and organic shapes, often carved from wood. By the 1960s she began to execute her work in rubber, bronze, and stone, and the pieces themselves became larger, more referential to what has become the dominant theme of her work—her childhood. She has famously stated“My childhood has never lost its magic, it has never lost its mystery, and it has never lost its drama.” Deeply symbolic, her work uses her relationship with her parents and the role sexuality played in her early family life as a vocabulary in which to understand and remake that history. The anthropomorphic shapes her pieces take—the female and male bodies are continually referenced and remade—are charged with sexuality and innocence and the interplay between the two. Bourgeois’s work is in the collections of most major museums around the world. She lives in New York.

KA: Think of pornography and porn writing.
The sex sections have a very very limited vocabulary. In fact, it's almost saying nothing.
You read "ooh" and "aah." It's at the edge of sense.
What it's really doing is working the reader rhythmically, and that fascinates me,
and I think that writing, the way phrase works with sentence, the way rhythm works,
the way sound works, is about music.

IN ANY SOCIETY BASED ON CLASS, HUMILIATION IS A
POLITICAL REALITY. HUMILIATION IS ONE METHOD BY WHICH
POLITICAL POWER IS TRANSFORMED INTO SOCIAL OR PERSONAL
RELATIONSHIPS. THE PERSONAL INTERIORIZATION OF THE
PRACTICE OF HUMILIATION IS CALLED HUMILITY.
CAPITOL IS AN ARTIST WHO MAKES DOLLS. MAKES, DAMAGES,
TRANSFORMS, SMASHES. ONE OF HER DOLLS IS A WRITER
DOLL. THE WRITER DOLL ISN'T VERY LARGE AND IS ALL
HAIR, HORSE MANE HAIR, RAT FUR, DIRTY HUMAN HAIR,
PUSSY.
ONE NIGHT CAPITOL GAVE THE FOLLOWING SCENARIO TO
HER WRITER DOLL:
As a child in sixth grade in a North American school,
won first prize in a poetry contest.
In late teens and early twenties, entered New York
City poetry world. Prominent Black Mountain poets,
mainly male, taught or attempted to teach her that a
writer becomes a writer when and only when he finds his
own voice.
CAPITOL DIDN'T MAKE ANY AVANT-GARDE POET DOLLS.
Since wanted to be a writer, tried hard to find her own
voice. Couldn't. But still loved to write. Loved to
play with language. Language was material like clay or
paint. Loved to play with verbal material, build up
slums and mansions, demolish banks and half-rotten
buildings, even buildings which she herself had
constructed, into never-before-seen, even unseeable
jewels.
To her, every word wasn't only material in itself,
but also sent out like beacons, other words. Blue
sent out heaven and The Virgin. Material is rich.
I didn't create language, writer...

DRAG KING
CHARM CITY BOYS
The notion of women taking on male personae originally occurred to me when I attended an opening of the Whitney Biennial in male drag in April 1989. Since none of my friends recognized me, I had no one to talk to, so I decided to take advantage of the situation and observe the scene as a man might. I got a beer and leaned against the wall, thinking I was safe.

COMPRA E VENDA
GIRL RIDING: Hello,
To be honest, I don't have a wealth of experience on the topic. I was introduced to it as a teenager by my boyfriend. It was something that he seemed consumed by. So after his parents went to bed, we went down to his rec room and we did it until my knees very nearly bled. i was reluctant to do it at first. It seemed very different from the physical relationship that my friends enjoyed with their boyfriends. I did it, quite honestly, just to make him happy. But then something clicked - I began to look forward to our night time rides. It just seemed exceptionally intimate.
I then didn't engage in that behaviour again until I took out an ad in an alternative newspaper here in Toronto about eight years ago. I got tons of responses. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the responses were from men in their late teens and early 20s. I was 30 at the time. For some reason, I don't find the same erotic thrill when the man is younger than me. I don't know why. The heavy guy that I wrote about was about 10 years older than me. And that appealed to me.
After placing the ad, I engaged in ponygirl activity for about a year with two of the men that responded. That eventually fizzled out and I haven't done it now for close to seven years. l do like spanking and hair-pulling (although my hair is short now and, I imagine, harder to pull).

Nosebleeds in fiction
In anime and manga (Japanese-originating animation style), it is very common to see sexually/romantically-aroused characters suffering nosebleeds, sometimes intense ones. Sometimes referred as the Japanese Slapstick, this rarely occurs in real life, but is based on a Japanese "old wives' tale", which states that becoming sexually excited can cause nosebleeds. Such occurrences are generally played for laughs and signify "loserhood" and/or virginity. This conception regarding nosebleeds also exists in Chinese culture. The English trip-hop musician Tricky makes a reference to sexual arousal causing nosebleeds in the song "Abbaon Fat Tracks" in his 1995 record Maxinquaye. For example, in Detective Conan, involving a high school detective shrinking into a child from the ingestion of APTX-4869 from a crime syndicate. He currently lives with his "friend" Ran (Whom he actually loves, as so does she, but they refuse to admit it). She is unaware of his real identity, and often treats him like a kid. Because of this, there have been occurences when he has taken baths with her. When she mentions it, he gets a severe nosebleed. He also got a nosebleed when she mentioned her trip to a hotspring with him.
